A week tomorrow (Saturday, December 7) sees the running of the 2013 Otterton Reindeer Run with a 10am start.
It is hoped with the colder, drier weather this week that the running conditions will be great ; at present it is muddy in places however with colder, frostier weather forecast may lead to slippery conditions under foot so additional care will need to be taken through gateways and muddy puddles on race day.
Despite Christmas being only a handful of shopping days away why not resist the urge to blow all your hard earned cash on a retail therapy excursion, come and join fellow runners for the Reindeer run which promises panoramic views of the Jurassic Coast and Otter Valley; we sincerely hope that participants will be suitably wowed .
On completion of your run on the Village Green you will be serenaded into the finish area with ambient Christmas saxophone tunes provided by father and son duo, Dave and Isaac. On catching your breath you will be issued with your souvenir Reindeer Run mug. Make your way to the comforts of Otterton Village Hall and you will be greeted with the hub bub of excited voices and festive bods of all shapes and sizes. Fran Mills and her hard working team of helpers will recharge your batteries with a complimentary mug full of mulled wine, a hot, tasty mince pie generously provided by Haymans Butchers of Sidmouth and a bacon butty for a small fee, all helping to raise funds towards OCESA (Otterton Church of England School Association).
Children, if your parent’s fitness is lacking why not drag them around the 3.2 km race for £3 per person, that will kick start their New Year’s exercise regime that they have always promised to embark on! Taking in a more amicable route this year’s shorter Fun Run heads South out of the village making it’s way down Colliver Lane to the River Otter and then follows the river path up stream back to Otterton Village; all participating children are given a complimentary set of reindeer antlers at the finish on the Green.
So come on folks, look out your Santa hats, grab some tinsel and get yourselves down to Otterton for the Reindeer Run.
Otterton C of E School, Big Jim and Mrs Baldrick would like to thank all our sponsors for their generous help and support without them this amazing event wouldn’t be able to take place.
