Sidmouth A team Our consolidated their position at the top of the Exeter and District Over-60s Triples League after their latest outing, writes Ron Cook.
The table-toppers banked the full eight points on offer from their meeting with Madeira B.
In their first year in the top division the Exmouth team have proved a force to reckon with so it was important that Sidmouth were on form and so they proved to be!
Tony Holland, David Hughes and skip Mike Borst scored 19 against the eight of the opponents whilst John Mason, Bob Daniels and skip Bob Seldon were 21-13 victors.
It all means that the halfway mark of the league campaign has been reached with Sidmouth A sporting an impressive record of seven wins and two defeats from nine matches.
The B and C teams were also in action and both lost, but were able to pick up a couple of points each courtesy of each wining a rink.
Madeira were the one visiting friendly team in the past week for a match that involved 18 ends of triples.
Traditionally the hosts play a 21-end format which perhaps explains why Sidmouth were beaten by just nine shots!
The top performing home triple was the one of James Poole, Ralph Brooks and John Mason who claimed a 25-15 succcess.
Sidmouth’s fine run in the Tony Allcock National Mixed Double rinks came to an end when the two teams lost to Plymouth Sir Frances Drake Club. For a first attempt in this competition the teams performed well to reach this stage and will aim do better next year.
