There was a complication regarding then recent meeting between Sidmouth and North Devon when the pair met in the Over-60s League, writes Sue and Peter Mison.
With the game being the usual format of two rinks home and away, the complication arose with North Devon only being able to muster three players for the four-player match which led to shot adjustments having to be made.
Sidmouth were successful on three of the four rinks, but still lost the match overall by a quarter of a shot 71 to 71-and-one-quarter!
Of some consolation was that Sidmouth banked nine points for winning on three rinks.
The best performing Sidmouth rink was that of Maurice Watson, Peter Mison, John Mason and skip Bob Seldon whose actual score was 19-15 before adjustment.
Last Saturday Sidmouth men played another round in the Interclub League with South Hams the opposition. As usual South Hams were tough opponents, but, despite losing on three if the rinks, Sidmouth overall thanks to a healthy victory on an away rink which carried them to a single shot 69-68 success.
The victorious rink comprised of Tony Brown, Dutch Holland, Mike Reader and skip Jack Richardson who won 23-10.
The club Christmas social was held last Saturday afternoon, organised as usual by Chris Hamer and her superb entertainments committee.
This year’s event was held in the form of a penny fair with sideshows including darts, quoits, target golf, roll a penny, shove halfpenny etc. Mince pies, mulled wine and nibbles were consumed during the afternoon, crackers were pulled, carols were sung and a quiz was held. We also had an amusing sketch on health and safety by John Greenaway, and even Father Christmas made an appearance with a sack of presents. A thoroughly entertaining afternoon was enjoyed by over 70 members.
There were no ladies matches held last week so the focus can be put onto the Friday triples and the Rosemullion competitions.
As at December 14, Team B of Jean Brimson, Evelyn Clements, Sylvia Cook, Rita Daw, Lorna Lever, Eileen Hewett, Sheila Lockwood and Paddy Wrench have a good lead in the Triples and, as at December 11, one of our newer members, Lynda Hargrave, leads in the Rosemullion with Ann Elwood in second place.
Last Sunday three mixed rinks journeyed to Madeira in Exmouth where they won on two rinks, but lost overall by just one shot at 59-58!
The best winning rink was Alastair McGregor, Derek Mountford, Sylvia Cook and skip Ron Cook who won by 19 shots to 13.
