Dom Bess claimed a ‘fivefer’ on his England Lions debut on day three of the final ‘Test’ against West Indies A in Antigua.

Bess, one of ‘our own’ in terms of Sidmouth cricket, claimed 5-88 as he bowled in tandem with his Somerset teammate Jack Leach.

The Bess return was not in a winning cause, though, as England were bowled out well shot of the 408 they needed to win and so succumbed to a ‘Test’ whitewash!

Bess claimed the first of his five wickets when he had opener John Campbell caught by Keeten Jennings for 22 with the score on 54, and three runs were added before Bess had Kieran Powell trapped leg before. After Leach had taken the third home wicket, Bess got his third, trapping Sharmar Brooks leg before with the score then 127-4.

Middle-order batsmen Jahmar Hamilton and Shane Dowrich then took the game away from the Lions by adding 112 for the fifth wicket before Bess bagged his fourth wicket when Hamilton edged the spinner into the gloves of Alex Davies for 79.

Bess’s fifth wicket was Rahkeem Cornwall, who became his third ‘leg before’ victim to leave the former Sidmouth star with the splendid figures of 5-38 in 34 overs – eight of which were maidens.
