It was all set up by ECB coach Trevor Griffin who, along with his team of coaches, provided a full days entertainment for the 30 participants.

Clubs from across the regions sent players with Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Sampford Peverell, Sandford, Culmstock, Exeter, Budleigh Salterton, Feniton, Honiton, Topsham St James and host club Whimple all represented.

A spokesman for the East Devon Youth League said: “The Cricket Day was fully subscribed and the coaching team, led by Trevor Griffin, did a superb job putting the kids through their paces. All taking part were nominated by their clubs as players that have not had the opportunity to be coached at district or county level and this sort of event gives everyone a chance to improve their own game and get to a higher level and even if some do not get to district or county level, there is every chance that they will become stalwart members of their clubs running teams, cutting wickets and coaching youngsters in future years to come.”

The League plans further such Cricket Days in the future as part of it’s on-going programme to get youngsters into cricket.
