Hall’s glorious haul for Sidmouth Under-11s

PUBLISHED: 12:26 14 August 2014 | UPDATED: 12:26 14 August 2014

Sidmouth Under-11s finished their season off in style at Sampford Peverell soundly beating their hosts by nine wickets.

The hosts won the toss and opted to bat first and Sidmouth made a cracking start that saw Soren Hall deliver a devastating opening over in which he rearranged the stumps of three top order home batsman!

In his second over young Hall then claimed a fourth wicket.

The home side slowly gathered themselves and, aided by some generous extras, got some runs on the board. Alfie Hall, Elliot Newton-Bell and Sebastian Downham all displayed fielding skills which helped restrict Sampford to just one boundary.

Ben Fisher broke the partnership with a peach of a yorker. Miles Lewis deputising behind the stumps took a testing catch which gave Fisher a second wicket and splendid figures of two wickets for eight runs from his four overs.

Stand-in captain Henry Williams followed with two for himself as he (2-12) and Harrison Todd (1-3), tidied up the tail. Hall finished with impressive figures of 4-14.

Fading light and threat of rain meant a target of 60 was still challenging. Thomas Mead and Todd however, built a sound 40-run platform in reply.

Todd was superbly run out by a direct hit with his bat just inches from the crease. Mead retired for the second successive match, with an unbeaten 30 which included five four’s.

Miles Lewis joined Josh Jones who took the pleasure and applause, sending the ball over the boundary rope to bring up the winning runs.
