Sidmouth 2nds head for Kilmington on Saturday (August 11) in a match that will likely settle which team is going to end up as champions of the Tolchards Devon Cricket League C Division East, and so take the one promotion place up for grabs, and which team will end as the runners-up!

The game at Kilmington will see the home side start sitting second in the table, just five points behind table-topping Sidmouth. Whichever side wins will then be in pole position over the final three games to go on and lift the title.

Last Saturday, Sidmouth were six wicket winners at home to Exeter 2nds, who batted first and were restricted to a closing total of 228-8.

Ed Hurley took the bowling honours for the Fortfield men with his return being 4-56 from nine overs, while Charlie Dibble finished with 2-31 from his nine overs and there were single wickets for Byron Knowles (1-55 from eight) and Daley Holmes (1-33 from nine).

Isaac Thomas and Nick Mansfield launched the home reply and put on 69 for the first wicket, before Thomas fell to a leg before for a 37-ball 33. Thomas Moore joined Mansfield and they took the total to 142 when Moore fell to a catch having scored 45 from just 42 balls, hitting one six and eight fours.

Byron Knowles fell without troubling the scorers, but the only other wicket to fall was that of Mansfield, but not before he had scored a 118-ball nine-boundary 81 as Sidmouth wrapped up a 12th win in 14 starts. Anthony Griffiths was not out 46, scored off just 36 balls with one six and five fours and Robbie Powell was unbeaten on nine as the winning line was crossed. After this Saturday’s big match, the final three games for Sidmouth are at home to Ottery St Mary, away at Budleigh and then at home to Feniton. The last three for Kilmington are away to first Exeter and then Whimple before they end the season at home to Budleigh Salterton.
