Ottery St Mary Under-13s powered their way into the final of the County Sports Trophy with a 151 run win over Budleigh Salterton in a one-sided semi-final played at Ottermouth, Budleigh.

The win means that the Otters will, head into Sunday’s final, which is against Topsham St James at the home of Ottery St Mary CC (1.30pm) looking to complete a league and cup double.

Matt Jeacock won the toss and Ottery batted first. Michael Lilley and Ben Lawler got the visitors off to a solid start, and by the time Lilley departed for a well constructed 19, Ottery already had 59 on the board for the loss of just two wickets.

The basis of the formidable total was continued magnificently by Lawrence Walker (retired - 41 not out), Ollie Olliff (26) and Sachin Coppell (18).

With wickets in hand, there was a final flourish from James Tyler who hit a whirlwind 40 (not out) from just a dozen deliveries, slamming three sixes and rifling four fours.

The final score was 178-4 from just 20 overs and the innings certainly made for spectacular viewing.

Not surprisingly this mammoth total was always likely to be out of reach for Budleigh, who did have a couple of much younger players in their side.

Once again the Ottery bowlers were at their clinical best and the wickets were shared around.

Joe Hynam (1-2), Joe Brookes (1-3) Ollie Brealy (2-3) Freddie Eul-Barker (3-12) Matt Jeacock (1-2) and Ben Lawler (1-6), were the successful bowlers and there was also a run-out, some good catches, and some excellent all-round fielding.
