Sidmouth III players celebrate a Bradninch 2nd XI wicket

Sidmouth III climbed to second in the 2nd XI B Division East table after a comfortable six-wicket win over Chudleigh 2nds at Newton Poppleford.

Chudleigh won the toss and decided to bat first, but were immediately a man down as wicketkeeper Ken Clay held a catch off opening seamer Jash Patidar. The visiting effort with the bat was a troubled 56-5 before limping to an all out total of 126 after 38.1 overs with the wickets shared between five of the six bowlers that skipper Saj Patidar sent into action.

The bowling honours went to Craig Stephen with his return being 4-28 from his 6.1 overs. Graham Munday claimed 3-9 from nine overs and there was a wicket each for Jash Patidar (1-18 from four overs), Louis Adey (1-23 from five) and Jordan Fowler (1-25 from nine).

David Watkins and Jash Patidar opened the reply, but were parted with the score on 18 with Watkins dismissed for 13.

Patidar was joined by Tom Clay, but he perished for two. This brought John Goodwin to the wicket and he helped Patidar take the side to the brink of victory. Patidar was eventually out for a splendid knock of 62 and Goodwin fell with the scores level, out for 24, leaving Louis Adey (2) and Kenny Clay (0) as the not out batsmen as the win was sealed with Sidmouth III having faced just 25.5 overs.

This Saturday, Sidmouth play the first of their remaining three games when they entertain Alphington II, again at Newton Poppleford.
