Archant

Tipton’s poor run of results continued at the weekend with big defeats to tourists Mitres from Cardiff on Saturday and Met Office on Sunday.

Saturday saw Tipton concede the largest number of runs a Tipton eleven has conceded in a match when Mitres powered their way to an imposing 287-7 against what was a depleted Tipton team.

Visiting batsmen James Arter and James Cutlan found the bowling to their liking scoring 120 and 63 respectively.

Most bowlers took punishment, but at least Steve Shaw took wickets in his 3-61 and David Birch also bagged a brace in his return of 2-45.

In reply Tipton did at least reach 181 before being dismissed and losing by 106 runs. Steve Shaw scored 40 and Phil Tolley retired injured on 37 after damaging a finger taking a catch earlier on the boundary.

On Sunday in a game sponsored by Taste of Sidmouth, the threatened thunderstorms stayed away for the visit of the Met Office.

It was probably a pity as Tipton could only muster a poor 74 runs with Tim Oakley making 16. Although Met Office were in trouble at 39-5 with David Birch claiming 3-23, they rallied to win with 27 overs to spare.
