Devon and Somerset Gliding Club: new experiences and achievements.

This week members flew in new gliders at home at North Hill, away at new sites and in competition, writes Jill Harmer.
Liam Vile from Exeter University and Andrew Mugleston from Kerswell competed in Competition Enterprise at Nympsfield - where the aim is broadly to go as far as possible each day. Liam was flying a K6 owned by a group of DSGC members for use mainly by the junior members. Conditions were quite challenging: Liam came fifth on one day, with his best flight being 150km. He landed safely in fields on four days. Another junior member, 15-year-old Peter Bennett from Yeovil, converted to a Puchacz glider and flew his first solo aerotow at Yeovilton airfield.
Ruth Comer from Exeter visited Lincolnshire and returned to North Hill with a new acquisition - a Libelle glider which she flew on Saturday. DSGC Chairman Lisa Humphries from Ashill flew in an LS3 for the first time.
Chris Mew from Bampton completed his first solo flight at North Hill; he started gliding when he was given a five-day course as a retirement present by his work colleagues.
