This week at the Devon and Somerset Gliding Club, there was some soarable weather amongst the thunderstorms, writes Jill Harmer.

The strong lift and high cloud bases gave the opportunity to achieve the FAI requirement for a gain of height of 1000metres.

On different days, Pete Bennett from Yeovil – one of our promising junior members and Tim Johns from Exeter, both achieved their Silver height. Tim has now completed his Silver badge.

At the weekend, Liam Vile from Exeter University assisted by some of the junior members organised trailer washing in aid of the Ian Beckett Fund. This fund was set up to provide financial assistance to juniors through donations and fundraising activities.

They cleaned seven very dirty glider trailers and cut the grass in the trailer park.
