Tiverton Staghounds host the penultimate Point-to-Point meeting of the season, this Sunday (June 8), at Bratton Down, Bratton Flemming, writes Donna Harris.

Six races are on offer with a start time of 2pm. Boasting a stunning back drop view of Exmoor, this is a great picnic venue and idyllic way to spend a summers afternoon. Over 120 entries have been received.

The Greenslade Taylor Hunt - sponsored ladies race looks to be the feature race of the day. Current Area leading Lady rider, Bryony Frost, gets the leg up on Templer, trained by her mother Nikki Frost at Buckfastleigh. Templer is a winner of seven chases and two Points. Megan Nicholls is leading the Area Ladies’ Novice Riders title, and could be out on Current Event, trained at Bruton by Rose Loxton. Current Event is a winner of five Chases and four Points. Both jockeys have progressed up thought the pony racing ranks and have ridden their way to the top. There are only two points separating Bridget Andrews and Jaqueline Coward at the top of the National ladies table. Latest Trend could extend the lead for Andrews, but the danger could be either options for Coward in Bitter Blue or Pevensey.

In the members race, sponsored by Winston Pincombe Landrovers, the Keith Cumings-trained Whenharrymetsally could figure after his intermediate win at Vauterhill. Jive Master, ran well at Cothelstone, before being headed two out Right Enough is the only entry here from the Robert Chanin team, but could well be a main danger.

Stags sponsor the open maiden, in which Danny Mags could go well after his second under James Tudor at Hereford two weeks ago, his form suggests he is a worthy each way bet. Grey Dream ran three lengths second here last weekend and could be out to challenge again.

The intermediate race could go to King Kash, who battled on well under Jamie Thomas, to finish a head in front of Carheney River at Upcott Cross two weeks ago.Tiger Rag came close to winning at Kingston Blount, when finishing one and a half lengths third.

In the Poltimore sponsored mens open, the prolific winning Findlay’s Find is already on a hat-trick of wins this season for Welsh raider Myfanwy Miles. He recently destroyed his field by twenty lengths at Lower Machen under jockey David Mansell. Rush ‘N’ Roll stayed on well when taking the Mixed Open at Holnicote under jockey Michael Legg.

The final race of the day is the Seddons Estate Agents sponsored restricted race. Of the 18 entered, Golden Squirell could go well for trainer Charlotte Bud, after his comfortable 12 length maiden win. King’s Scout and Champion Versions are other suggestions.

On course facilities include hot refreshments, bar, bookies and many trade stands. Entrance is £10 per person, maximum £30 car.

Course is located at Bratton Flemming, 9 miles NE of Barnstaple on A399, 11 miles North of South Molton. Post Code EX31 4SG.

As any sportsman will tell you it hurts to lose, it also hurts to lose by one point, it hurts even more to lose by one point in the last two minutes of a game and it hurts a lot to lose when it was the best team that lost, writes Robert Baugh.
