As ever, the event, which starts at Topsham at noon, will see an armada of paddle boarders, encompassing all ages and size of board, race the length of the River Exe.

The paddle boarders will follow the channel on a course that is both tactical and challenging, particularly for those who have little or no experience of endurance races, especially if the wind is up!

The event, supported by Grenadier Estates and run and organised by Edge Watersports, has grown to attract paddle boarders from all over the UK. At the end of the event all entrants are rewarded with fish and chips provided by ‘Rockfish’ and beer provided by local company Hanlon’s Brewery.

The racing prizes are sponsored by Fatface, Starboard, Fanatic, Ion, RedBull and Ollybars, and, with over 100 entries expected, it should also be a great spectacle.

This year’s event is also raising money for ‘Surfers Against Sewage’.

If you still want to enter this year’s Exe Hammer Challenge it is not too late! And if you want to rent a board, then Edgewatersports still has a few left – call 01395 222551 or visit www.billetto.co.uk/en/exe-hammer-2018-paddleboard-race-tickets-292174

The race begins from Topsham Quay at noon and the first paddle boarders are expected to arrive on Exmouth seafront at around 12.45pm.
