Exeter Aces down Swindon Robins

Exeter Aces were narrow 88-86 winners when they met Swindon Robins in their latest cycle sppedway meeting.

With an exclusion in the first race the Aces got a 7-2 heat race against them. With two drawn heats the Aces secured a 7-3 from the pairing of Joe Avery and Dave Murphy. Another 5-5 drawn heat left Swindon leading 25-24.

Heat six saw Craig Nethercott and Robert Croal secure another 7-3 of the meeting. With three drawn heats to end the first half the teams went into the break with Exeter leading 46-43.

Exeter opened the second half with a 6-4 success and, with some quick thinking Aaron Herbert secured a 5-5 drawn heat with Sam Riddle. Joe Avery and Dan Winchester then secured a 7-3 triumph.

Andrew Yard made a cracking gate off to win heat 15. In the final race the Aces pairing just had to finish the race.

With Nethercott rode a fabulous last race before being pipped on the line so the Aces picked up three points from their final race.

After having four points deducted for a yellow card the match was won by Exeter by a margin of two points.

Scorers: Joe Avery 10+3, Dan Winchester 16, Sam Riddle 5, Aaron Herbert 16+2, Robert Croal 8+1, Craig Nethercott 13+1, Dave Murphy 16, Andrew Yard 8+2.

In the Division Two meeting Aces were also victors after they banked 20 of the meeting’s first 21 points!

A 6-4 from Charlie-Jane Herbert and Tonicha Heyde, and two 7-3s from Connor Tucker and Owen Tidball and Jack Herbert and Andy Riddle. Lauren Hookway then secured a win and a 5-5 drawn race. Heat five saw the return of Amy Herbert, paired with brother Jack, Jack pushed for all he had but couldn’t get passed the Swindon pairing. Lauren Hookway and Charlie-Jane Herbert then secured a 7-3, with Herbert making a good pass on one of the Swindon riders. With the next couple races going against the Aces they then picked a 7-3 from Lauren Hookway and Andy Riddle. Tonicha Heyde took an unfortunate tumble in heat 11, which left the young ace going off to hospital. Herbert carried on to win the race. The Aces then ended the meeting with a 7-3 leaving Aces the 64-54 winners.

Scorers: Tonicha Heyde 3, Charlie-Jane Herbert 11+1, Connor Tucker 8+1, Owen Tidball 10, Jack Herbert 8+1, Andy Riddle 10+2, Amy Herbert 2, Lauren Hookway 12.

In the Conference League meeting Aces were also victors over Swindon. The opening heat ended 5-5 before Charlie-Jane Herbert and Sam Riddle netted the Aces first heat win with a 7-3. The Aces pairings of Lauren Hookway, Thomas Croal, Charlie-Jane Herbert, Sam Riddle and Robert Croal shared the spoils over then next four heats.

Heat seven saw Lauren Hookway and Robert Croal land a 7-3 win and this meant the final pairing of Charlie-Jane Herbert and Sam Riddle just had to finish. The aces got the first and only heat disadvantage. A special mention to young Owen Tidball who stood around in the pits, just encase he was needed and waited till the very end of the match and congratulated every single rider after every race.
