Archant

With the Exmouth ABC show just two days away (Saturday, March 8), the anticipation continues to mount, writes Phil Crook.

With nine Western Counties schoolboy finals on the bill, local lads Aaron Robinson and Jack Silk from Lympstone AB. are sure to have a passionate home crowd behind them.

Robinson faces Mason Smale from Guernsey, who has a record of seven wins from a dozen bouts, so he comes with experience and is unlikely to be fazed by a partisan support. Jack Silk lines up against John Ward, from Chippenham, but nothing could be gleaned on the lad from Wiltshire, as his club have removed his record from their data base. No doubt Lympstone’s coaching staff will have been using their extensive contacts to find out what they can, and they are sure to be well prepared!

Further local interest will come from Heart of Devon’s Ollie Watt. The Torquay boxer has won nine of his 21 bouts and will start favourite against Factory ABCs Jay Phelps. The Gloucester based lad has won three of his nine bouts to date, but he comes from a club with a strong fighting heritage and he could spring a surprise.

An impressive supporting bill has been put together by Exmouth match maker Gary Branch, who has been working tirelessly to match the club’s eight seniors. As always, bouts have been made and lost and made again, but Jamie Drummond, Alex Barton, Lewis Mills, Ollie Jones, Issac Swann, Dave Ruiz, Younis Omari and Marni Martinez are ready to face who ever is put in front of them.

Because there are 18 bouts, doors will open at 6pm with the action due to start at 7pm. Tickets priced at £12 will be on sale at the door.
