Back-to-back Western League hat-tricks – can anyone oblige?

20:28 04 September 2014

Exmouth Town’s James Ansell completed a rare feat at the weekend when he struck a second successive hat-trick in the Toolstation Western league, writes Steve Birley.

Ansell had scored three of the Town seven in a win at Elburton Villa and, seven days later he score three of the Town nap hand haul at home to Camelford.

The feat of trebles in successive games has never happened before at Town in terms of their South West Peninsula League days.

Town’s John Dibsdall says: “I know it wasn’t done in the 19884/85 FA Vase year as I have programme from the Fleetwood game but not sure if Kevin Smith achieved it. Fairly sure it wouldn’t have been done in the nineties when we struggled and would be surprised if it was done in Russell Wilson’s time.”

South West Peninsula League secretary and all-round football aficionado Phil Hiscox says: “Kevin Smith scored 58 goals in a single season which suggests successive hat-tricks might have been achieved. He’s probably the only contender for this particular feat.”
