Barnes nets as Sidmouth Warriors Under-13s win well at Dawlish

Sidmouth Warriors Under-13s were 1-0 winners when they travelled to Dawlish for their latest Exeter and District Youth League match.

With Dawlish winning promotion at the end of last season, this was the first meeting between Warriors and the South Devon side for a number of years.

The hosts, boosted by an opening day win over Seaton, made a confident start, but Warriors, playing with the slope in the first half, soon took charge and began to dominate proceedings.

With Michael Biewlawski a constant thorn in the home side with his right wing work, Warriors went close to scoring a number of times. Thomas Nichols saw a shot saved and Charles Joy, with a near post header, saw the Dawlish keeper make a smart save.

Late on in the first half, Dawlish broke through the Sidmouth back line but the always vigilant Sidmouth glovesman Anthony Nita was on hand to save magnificently at the feet of the attacker.

The second half saw Sidmouth playing up the slope, and, prompted by skipper Callum French, back from a serious injury, it was not when the deadlock was eventually broken.

A lovely through-ball saw Ryan Barnes burst past two defenders and bear down on the Dawlish goal before brilliantly slotting past the keeper. This spurred on the Sidmouth boys and, with debutant Christian Pinnock controlling the midfield, further chances were fashioned.

Barnes was a constant threat and, with Man of the Match, Biewlawski, constantly stretching the home defence it was Warriors who controlled the closing third of the contest to go on and close out a richly deserved clean sheet success.
