East Devon Grecians - City latest

Whilst Exeter City fans are a little short of good news in match results department, there was plenty to celebrate when news broke this week, that goalkeeper Christy Pym and midfielder Matt Grimes have been picked for England Under-20s squad, writes Gareth Hughes.
They will face Romania in tonight’s game being held at Telford. The squad includes players from clubs in the Premiership including Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal and is a credit and accolade to the City academy and youth set up.
Last Saturday the City squad, which is already one of the smallest in League Two, with current injuries to Jordan Moore-Taylor, Danny Butterfield, Tom Nichols, Jamie Reid and Christian Ribeiro travelled to Northampton with and under strength team. The result was a close 1-0 win for the Cobblers with a fine acrobatic overhead goal in the 89th minute sealing City’s demise.
This was the third goal the Cobblers have scored in the final minute of a game in three of the past four league matches! The Grecians will be disappointed that despite all their efforts, that they did not come away with the point that was almost within the grasp. Despite this, the positives from the game were that City had to be, and were resolute in their defending, and can take some credit for nullifying Northampton’s pressure. The killer goal may have another harsh lesson for the Grecians but the team is where it is. Hopefully injuries will lessen and options for Paul Tisdale will improve.
Other news from the Club include the short term loan signing of Alex Nicholls from Northampton Town. Nicholls’ suffered a double fracture of his left leg in a game against Port Vale in October 2012.
On completion of the deal Nicholls said: “I’m really excited to be here. I sat down and spoke with the manager and I’m really looking forward to playing under him. I’ve always been a direct player with pace and power, and I’m looking to bring that to Exeter and give them more of an attacking threat. Hopefully I’ll chip in with a few goals as well.”
This Saturday City are at home when Mansfield Town are the visitors. Mansfield have won their last two visits to the Park by a goal to nil. They currently sit in 16th place in the League Two table having lost their last two games.
However, whilst the Stags have beaten Newport and Oxford this season, they are pointless on their travels. As we know City are still without a win this season, and two home draws and three away defeats see City in 21st place in the league, just one point off the bottom. A home win this weekend will be a massive boost to the club and supporters. Come on you Reds!
