Exmouth Town FA Cup shock - Southern Road side excluded from draws in both FA Cup and FA Vase

16:37 04 July 2014

Archant

Exmouth Town have received a huge blow with the news that they have been left out of both the FA Cup and the FA Vase for the coming season.

The reason for the Town absence is explained by a posting o the South West Peninsula league website which reads: “ The FA informed the club yesterday (Thursday) that they don’t possess the correct FA ground grading certificate at this time to enter there competitions.”

In pure financial terms the FA Cup can be – and often is – a huge source of much needed revenue for the smaller clubs. A club - like Town – entering the FA Cup can win £1,500 for winning an Extra Preliminary round tie, £1,925 for being successful in a Preliminary Round tie and a whopping £3,000 if they go on and then win a 1st Qualifying Round tie!

Last season Town enjoyed a fine run in the FA Vase winning a number of ties and banking valuable prize money.

It is not quite so lucrative in the FA Vase, but his season’s competition does offer £600 to 1st Qualifying Round winners and £800 to winners of 2nd Qualifying Round ties. There is also of course greater gate revenue and all the spin offs that come with bigger crowds generated by cup ties!
