Fresha League teams finding build-up of outstanding fixtures.

Archant

The second Saturday of February was a washout with just one game played in the Fresha Devon and Exeter Football League.

It means that its now six successive Saturday’s that the local football schedule has been decimated by the weather!

Since the turn of the year, across the six match days that there have been so far, just 58 matches have been played across the nine divisions.

On a regular match day the norm would be to see at least 65 matches and so the latest statistic reads 58 games played out of a possible 390!

Just 47 of the Fresha League teams of which there are 126, have managed to play a home game since the turn of the year!

Two of them, both Mid Devon-based, Crediton United Reserves and Tiverton Town Reserves, have not played home or away since late November!

There are just eleven Saturday’s remaining between now and the end of April.

In the Premier Division Tiverton Town Reserves still have 20 matches to play! As things stand they have dates for a dozen of those games (according the www.full-time.thefa.com website which lists all the fixtures) with their ‘final’ outing being a Saturday, May 3 meeting with Beer Albion.

In terms of the local sides playing in the Fresha League, Tipton St John has the most outstanding with 14 still to play in Division One. Fluxton still have 13 Division Six games to negotiate and, in the same section, Ottery St Mary Reserves have a dozen games outstanding.

The remainder of our local sides are in a good place – as long as the wet weather ends now!

Sidbury have 11 games outstanding as they chase a place in the top flight for next season. Newton Poppleford (Division One) have 10 to play as do Sidbury United Reserves (Division Three) whilst Ottery St Mary first team have eight to play.
