Sidmouth Town Reserves landed their first win of the season after a powerful all-round display took them to a 9-2 Manstone Lane win over Heavitree Reserves.

Town, who had disappointed seven days before in their 3-3 draw with Alphington Reserves, were good value for the victory, the highest win in Macron League Division One so far this season.

Starting brightly and forcing a couple early saves from the Heavitree keeper it was looking good for the home supporters. However, a dubious penalty awarded against the Vikings saw the visiting side take a 1-0 lead. That lead was doubled as Town were clearly showing a hangover from the game seven days before. However, they dug deep and a finish from Aidy Parr was followed by a Scott Hughes brace and, 25 minutes into the contest, Town had turned a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead. Once ahead Town went looking for further goals and Jake Boyland thundered home the fourth before Hughes completed a first-half hat-trick to leave Town trooping off at the break with a 5-2 lead.

The second half saw Town dominate to such a degree that home glovesman Adam Bartlett was left to simply stand back and admire the action in front of him!

Hughes added another before Damien Armes beat the keeper with a deflected free-kick.

Parr added his second and Towns eighth before Spanish signing Gerard smashed in an unstoppable effort to round things off.

Joint boss Paddy Thomas said: “It’s pleasing to finally secure three points in what certainly looks to be a tough Division One this season.”

On Saturday (October 6), the Town second team host Chard Town Reserves (3pm).
