Heavitree Youth 1, Sidmouth Warriors 4

Sidmouth Warriors Under-11s were worthy winners when they came up against a physical Heavitree side. A closely contested first half saw just the one goal scored.

It arrived courtesy of a stunning strike from Zac Jabri that saw the ball nestle in the top corner of the net. The lead was no more than Warriors deserved after a half that produced a good mix of solid defending and enterprising attacking play through an inventive midfield.

The star of the second half saw more of the same from warriors and it was no surprise when the lead was doubled. There was some fine approach play involving Harry Emmet, Thomas Mead and Zac Jabri, leading to Jack Howe finding the back of the net.

The Exeter side pressed for a goal back, but got little change out of the impressive Finley Gardner and Lewis McManus and also Ben Harrison, the latter once again looking full of confidence in the Warriors goal.

More good team work led to Toby Neumegan making it 3-0. The home side pulled a goal back, but the three-goal margin was swiftly restored when Jabri finished what he’d started scoring his second and the games final goal.

Warriors squad: Harry Emmett, Thomas Mead, Jack Howe, Toby Neumegan, Josh Haige, Josh Miller, Richie Drewet, Lewis McManus, Zac Jabri, Finley Gardener, Ben Harrison.

As any sportsman will tell you it hurts to lose, it also hurts to lose by one point, it hurts even more to lose by one point in the last two minutes of a game and it hurts a lot to lose when it was the best team that lost, writes Robert Baugh.
