Neville nets as Otterton make Bill Slee Cup progress

Otterton made Bill Slee Cup progress with a 1-0 home win over Teignmouth.

Buoyed by their home win over Ottery St Mary the week before, Otterton went into the cup tie in confident mood, but they found the South Devon side a tough nut to crack!

Both sides had early chances with Lee Mitchell and Matt Lidstone going close for the Otters.

Midway through the first half the Otters opened the scoring with Ryan Neville finding the back of the net. Otterton began to take control, but were stung when the Teigns were awarded a penalty. However, keeper Mike Simpson kept the spot out with a superb save. The game was end-to-end throughout the second half, and the best of the chances for the Otters fell to Mitchell and substitutes Jonny Killick and Kev Pitt. However, there were no further goals at either end with much of the Otterton clean sheet also down to some splendid defending from the outstanding Gary May.

Otterton had ‘stars’ all over the pitch. The midfield quartet of Simon Tuley, Jonny Dack, Jamie Cardwell and Ryan Wright were busy all game and Tom Matthew made a return to Otters action, albeit off the bench, after many years of having not played and looks as if he is going to be a great addition to the squad.

Otterton Reserves were beaten 7-3 in a Geary Cup tie at Okehampton Argyle. The Otters’ scorers were Connor Taylor, Tom Sicklemore and Dale Evans. This Saturday (September 15) Otterton first team are in league action at North Tawton while the Reserves have a Devon Intermediate Cup tie at home to South Devon side Watcombe (2pm).
