Ottery St Mary launch new Fresha season with home victory

PUBLISHED: 07:33 31 August 2014 | UPDATED: 07:33 31 August 2014

Ottery St Mary made a flying start to the new Fresha League season with a 4-0 success at home to Bradninch.

From the first whistle the Otters dominated and, but for some brave goal keeping by the Bradninch gloves man, they’d have been out of sight in the first quarter!

Twice Nick Feeney had shots saved before he missed the target and a Phil Paddison header cannoned back off the upright.

With a combination of controlled, high tempo, quick passing football it was no surprise when the opening goal arrived, netted on 32 minutes when Connor Swingler was on the end of a slick passing move.

Jordan Rogers was unfortunate not top double the lead; his fierce shot stayed out via the cross bar and then Sean Ford and Feeney went close before Swingler had a shot cleared off the line. It was not totally one-way. However, any sorties the Mid Devon side attempted were comfortably dealt with by a confident home defence.

After the break the lead was doubled when a delightful pass from Swingler played in Feeney who stroked the ball past the keeper and two became three as scorer turned provider with Feeney providing the assist for a goal by substitute Adam Harris.

The fourth and final goal was scored by the industrious Jordan Rogers who was rewarded for his fine contribution through the game, netting from close range.

Saturday sees the Otters travel to Seaton Town Reserves.
