Sidbury United travel to Wellington on Saturday hopeful that the momentum they gathered before the winter fixture postponements will continue into the New Year as they chase promotion from Fresha Division One, writes Jordan Cooper.

The side saw all three of their games over the Christmas period cancelled after the adverse weather had made pitches unplayable, a problem that spread across the Fresha League programme.

However, manager Jeremy Schofield is expecting his players to be in good shape despite their lack of competitive fixtures.

He said: “Nothing substitutes a real game but we all got together on Saturday on the astro turf in Exeter for an hour and a half to blow the cobwebs away.”

Their last competitive fixture ended with United taking a very good point from Bow despite the fact that Bow had won all of their previous nine home fixtures in the league.

In the reverse fixture against Wellington in mid-November, Sidbury took the points in a tight affair that ended 3-2 and Schofield is expecting another difficult game.

“It’s always tough out there, they are a good organised side, the pitch is massive and usually very wet so tough to play on. But I believe we have what it takes to win.”

Sidbury will be without striker Pete Grover after he broke his ankle and Dave Green has left the club to join Sidmouth Town, but Schofield believes the depth of his squad can help them towards a top three finish.
