Sidmouth Town Football Club is certainly enjoying something of a ‘special’ season with the third and fourth teams topping their respective Macron League tables, the second team have booked a quarter-final berth in the Devon Senior Cup and the first team head into tomorrow’s (Saturday) East Devon derby looking to extend an unbeaten run at Manstone Lane that stretches back four months, when they host Honiton Town (2.15pm).

The Town first team were without a game last Saturday, but are at full strength for the meeting with a Honiton Town side that beat them in an early season midweek game at their Mountbatten Park home.

Town boss Josh Stunell recalls that particular game. He says: “It was not a good night for us, but then, at the time we were still trying to find our feet and they [Honiton] were, as the new boys in the league, looking to make a name for themselves.”

He continued: “This time round I fancy they will find us a different proposition as we are in good form and playing with a lot of confidence.”

As for what sort of a game the Town boss expects tomorrow, he answers: “I have crossed swords before with the Town management team. When they were in charge at St Martins and I was at Seaton Town they pipped us to the Devon and Exeter League title by just two points, and that on the final day of the season.

“If Honiton Town are going to be playing in a similar style then I am pretty sure they will be a strong, robust side and capable of mixing it with any opposition.

“That said, it’s the same old story as far as I am concerned in as much as I know the quality we have is a match for any side at this level and so, if we play to the level we are capable of producing, then I am confident our wonderful home run will continue.”

Honiton Town arrive at Manstone Lane without an away win to their name in the league this season.

The Vikings go into the contest unbeaten in four and having suffered just two defeats in the last 10 - and both those were single goal defeats!

In terms of the other Town senior sides and their action tomorrow; the second team are at University, the thirds seek a ninth straight Division Six win when they visit Bampton and the fourth team are in Division Eight action at Byes Lane, Sidford with a home game against Exeter-based Central.
