Sidmouth Town boss Josh Stunell was delighted with the performance of teenage midfielder Tyler Wellman in the narrow 2-1 defeat to St Martins in the side’s South West Peninsula League Eastern Division meeting at Manstone Lane.

The Town boss said: “Tyler’s contribution was exceptional. He has grown in statute from game one this season and is now consistently producing mature performances in our midfield.”

He continued: “He’s only 18, but at times he plays like someone who has been in and around the senior game for a long time. He is articulate on the ball and can both read and pick a pass. He bossed the show against St Martins and I am sure he is in for a big future in the game.”

Stunell is clear as to why Wellman is continuing to develop at such a fast pace. He says: “Tyler is a coach’s dream. He never misses a training session and his attitude – and approach – to both training and match preparation is top drawer. He deserves every accolade he is getting just now and long may his good – and inspirational form – continue.”

Town are without a game this Saturday (January 20), but return to action on the final Saturday of the month when they take on table-topping Newton Abbot Spurs.
