Sidmouth Town get their South West Peninsula League, Eastern Division campaign back underway tomorrow (January 11), with a visit to Plymstock United, writes Jordan Cooper.

The Vikings have had a prolonged break after scheduled games against Exwick Villa and Budleigh Salterton were called off, meaning they have not played since a home draw against Alphington on December 14.

When the sides last met, The Vikings had the better of the chances at Manstone Lane, but were unable to find the net in a scoreless draw. The difference between the two sides was minimal on the day and that has translated to the league table with both teams neck and neck on 17 points.

Of the previous fixture and ahead of Saturday’s game, manager Paddy Thomas said: “They’re strong at the back and a bit lively up front but I thought we deserved to win over the 90 minutes. Since then we’ve added a few people who can score goals, which has made a difference.

“We need to go down there and get three points and then in two weeks time we’ve got Axminster who are around us as well. So those two games are big games for us in terms of position at the foot of the table. Added to that, we’ve got some tough games coming up in February so we could do with picking up these points.”
