Sidmouth Town Under-13s takle goal count to 89 for the season with 11 goal haul at Dawlish

Dawlish 2, Sidmouth Town 11

Town Under-13s managed to combat a sticky, narrow and sloping pitch as well as the home team to keep the pressure on the one and only team to sit above them in the table.

In a bright start it was no surprise that the opening goal arrived as it did in the fifth minute when a Matt Salter cross was tucked away by Jay Harris from.

However, instead of that being the start of more goals the next 20 minutes saw play compacted into the middle third of the pitch.

The home team struck next, but the introduction of Jacob Rice coincided with a period of sustained Town pressure and it was Rice who restored his teams lead when he put away a cross from Luke Spiller. A minute later Spiller was again the creator and this time Louis Adey slotted home to send Town into the interval 3-1 up.

A half-time shuffle of formation in a bid to reduce the congestion in midfield paid dividends for Town who also had the added advantage of playing down the slope!

Ben Goodier started to boss the midfield and Mat Salter became much more involved and the chances soon began to present themselves!

Rice scored after a Tom Moore cross, but then, against the run of play, the home side netted to make it 4-2.

That though, proved to be the last time the Town goal was to be breached and all the latter match action was the opposite end of the pitch.

Jack Miller made it five before Ben Goodier hit two long range shots that were both saved but spilled by the keeper allowing Moore and Miller to tap in. Goodier eventually got on the score sheet himself scoring a brace, the second a 20-yard free kick into the top corner.

The last two goals were both netted from close range and were of contrasting quality. The pick of them was a superb cross from Salter who planted the ball straight on the head of Jack Miller who made no mistake whilst Adey finished things off toe poking the ball home.

Jacob Rice was named the Town Man of the Match and the teams goal count for the season is now 89!

There is saying that lightening never strikes the same place twice, but you’d be hard pressed to find anyone at the ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels subscribing to that adage after seeing their hopes of winning the Premier League Pairs Championship evaporate after having a rider excluded in the Grand Final for the second successive season, to leave their duo of Brady Kurtz and Josh Grajczonek as runners-up to winners Ipswich on the night, writes Ian Belcher.
