Sidmouth Warriors went out of the Under-9 Cup at the hands of the visiting Mid Devon side, writes Chris Roberts.

Following the festive break and weather-enforced cancelations the Warriors showed little signs of rustiness in a bright start that saw them have good possession, creating some excellent chances.

Ben Fisher was at the centre of things and his close control was a feature of the play with a number of chances created, but not taken.

It was late in the first half when the visitors began to grow in confidence and they broke the deadlock just before the break.

The start of the second half saw warriors again on the front foot with midfield dynamo Freddie Eul-Barker orchestrating things. However, further chances went begging whilst, when the keeper was finally beaten, he was rescued by the frame of then goal!

The lead was doubled when the ball was rifled into the net in stunning stile after a corner.

Warriors may have been beaten in a close encounter, and defeated by two classic strikes, but can hold their heads very high and be proud of the passing football they produced.

As any sportsman will tell you it hurts to lose, it also hurts to lose by one point, it hurts even more to lose by one point in the last two minutes of a game and it hurts a lot to lose when it was the best team that lost, writes Robert Baugh.
