Tipton St John boss Dave Strawbridge was delighted with his side’s performance in the 2-2 draw at Wellington.

He said: “Given the problems we faced with the pre-match down pour followed by a 45-minute delay whilst they found another pitch for us to play on, it could easily have gone horribly wrong for us. However, this team of mine had plenty of character and the spirit is really good. That much was obvious in the shift they collectively put together to ensure we got something from the game. I felt at the end that a point was the absolute least we deserved. I don’t think too many of the home followers would have had much to complain about had we come home with all three points.”

On the Jody Freeman double, the Tipton boss said: “He’s been taking the odd set-piece this season. In fact we have been passing the responsibility around in games. He struck them so sweetly and, but for a cracking save by the Wellington keeper he’d have had a treble. This was not a one-man effort though for I thought everybody got stuck in for the cause and when you get that sort of commitment and desire you tend to get your just rewards.”

Next up is Saturday’s trip to Tiverton Town Reserves.

Strawbridge says: “It’s a measure of the strength of the division this season in as much as we move on from facing the second string of a Toolstation Western League club to face a Reserve team from a Southern League outfit.”

Tiverton Town 1st team parted company with their management team on Tuesday night. Not that that concerns Strawbridge who says: “I am sure it will not have any effect on what the Reserves are doing. We know fro their league record this season that they are a good side who are wining the majority of their games. However we have built up a head of steam of late what with the win followed by the Wellington draw and so we’ll go to Ladysmead (Tiverton) and look to attack and see what that gets us on the day.”
