Archant

Sidmouth Town Reserves were held to a 3-3 draw by visiting Alphington Reserves when the sides met at Manstone Lane on what was a soggy Saturday.

Sadly, the football served up by the two sides – there was a lack of basic footballs kills on display throughout – matched the disappointing weather!

After taking the lead through Callum Cross, Town were pegged back when stand-in keeper Damien Armes was beaten at his near post. Jake Boyland and Aidy Parr gave the first half a lop-sided look with Town going into the break 3-1 to the good, though on the final whistle it was a race by both sets of players to get out of the rain! In the second half, the two-goal cushion that Town had got themselves into pre the interval, soon disappeared as Town froze under pressure.

Making mistakes close to your goal just raises the opponent’s hope and two headed goals were conceded to compound the misery.

On a day when Colyton won 10-1 in the Premier Division, the side that beat them in the Devon Cup final just five months ago can only be glad that they have been promoted, otherwise a cricket score would be the likely outcome!
