Wilkes stars as Town fourths share eight goals with Central

Sidmouth Town fourths remain top of the Macron League Division Eight table after sharing eight goals with Exeter-based Central.

The young Vikings carried on their remarkable start to the season with what turned out to be a good point at home to a much-improved visiting side that the Vikings easily beat 4-1 away from home.

Some early pressure from the home team saw the Vikings race into a two-goal lead inside 10 minutes courtesy of an own goal and a debut goal for new signing Simon Madge, the latter adding some good experience to the squad.

However, the Vikings did not have things their own way and, were it not for an outstanding performance by stand-in glovesman Callum Wilkes, Central could easily have been two up themselves if not more!

But Sidmouth held on and managed to get the third goal from the in-form striker Ollie Turton to somehow head into the break with a 3-0 lead, one achieved somewhat against the run of play!

An early second-half goal from the visitors pegged the Vikings back, but a second from Turton restored the three-goal advantage with one third of the game remaining.

The young side battled, but could not withstand the Central onslaught, and, in the end, were lucky to come away with what must be seen as a good point with the team almost at the halfway stage of the league campaign.

There was perhaps real disappointment at the end of the game for the young Vikings, but they need to pick themselves up and move on to what now could be two of the most important games of the season - back-to-back matches against Honiton Town.
