Golfers who took in the Commonwealth Games will no doubt appreciate the photo finish in the latest Honiton ladies’ weekly flag competition.

Each player was instructed to play only as far as her handicap allotment would allow.

That meant, for example, a handicap of 25 could play 73 (par) plus 25 shots for a 98 total.

When all shots were used up she would place her flag, and that position would mark her overall place in the competition.

It was a tough challenge and only six ladies managed to reach the 18th green before putting down their flags, but Henrietta Bradshaw and Linda McLaughlin both managed to sink their putts on the 18th hole with their final shot to share first place.

Third spot went to Liz Wood with Ann Desmoulins fourth, Chris Pearce, fifth and Olwen Eaton, sixth.

In the nine-hole competition Barbara Mullett was first with Pam Manning second.
