Honiton Netball League latest – Cranbrook Arrows see off HNC Honeyz

PUBLISHED: 13:04 12 March 2018

Rain forced many Honiton Netball League fixtures to be called off on the first Monday of March and so just two games were played, both on indoor courts, writes Steph Upson.

HNC Honeyz and Cranbrook Arrows were up against each other in the Division Two group two play-offs.

In a close first quarter, Arrows ended the period with a narrow 7-6 lead.

In the second quarter, Cranbrook Arrows began to gel more as team, which was reflected in the amount of goals they netted – 11 in the 12 minutes!

They also put up a strong defence, conceding only four goals. The third quarter saw more of the same play displayed in the previous quarter.

In the final quarter, Honeyz found a new lease of life, resulting in them preventing Arrows from having have a final goal-scoring streak.

However, the Cranbrook side had already got out in front and eventually won the game 33-19.

Shooters from both teams picked up the Player of the Match awards with goal attack Bobbi Richards taking the honour for Cranbrook Arrows and goal shooter Victoria Henwood taking the honour for Honeyz.

The only other match was also in the Division Two group two section, with Tornados and Jurassics meeting on the Colyton LED courts.

Tornados took an early lead and, working hard on their defending, they were able to take advantage of any mistakes made by Jurassics.

This approach, combined with some fine centre court attacking play, led by Katherine Pankiewicz, along with accurate shooting, meant they were able to, on average, score a goal a minute for the majority of the game despite the best efforts of Jurassics and some fine defending by Karen Bennett.

With much of the game one-way, Tornados picked up a comfortable three points courtesy of a 47-9 win.
