Club members of Honiton Sea Angling Club have been having some good catches recently, writes Mike Spiller.
Over the last few weeks some good fish have come through to the records officer to record.
Notable captures have been for a new boat caught record conger eel landed by Leon Rice of 65lb 15oz. The fish was caught on Cyril Newtons boat the Blue Lady
out of Beer.
Bill Cassar has also broken the club record recently for a boat bull huss with a fish of 14lb 10oz.
This fish was landed aboard Marcus James’s boat Mary Ellan, sailing out of Minehead.
Monthly shore fishing events are well under way now for this year, a new incentive for this years competitions is that all members who fish the shore matches are also being put forward for Penn Clubman points. This they have found to be attracting some interest.
The club also arrange casting practice and tuition for members or non members in a field just outside Honiton on Wednesday evenings. This is arranged through the club Chairman Dennis Retter. Anyone who wants to learn the basics or simply wants to come along and learn how to cast safely are more than welcome to attend. Please ring for more information.
Junior competitions are also run through the warmer months on and around the more local beaches in East Devon. New juniors are always welcome but as normal parents/grand parents should accompany their children to any of the events. If anyone would like to try fishing for the first time, seniors or juniors just get in contact and we will try and arrange something for the family perhaps.
More details on the club from our website at www.honitonsac.co.uk or look for us on Facebook. Monthly meetings are open to all members or non members at the Con Club in Honiton and happen on the third Thursday each month from 8pm.
