Honiton students bag martial arts grading success

11:45 29 May 2014

Students from TAGB Star Tae Kwon Do schools at Broadclyst, Honiton and Cranbrook have been training extra hard during the last few weeks and their extra effort was in evidence at the quarterly TAGB colour belt grading held at Honiton Sports Centre.

Eighty students, aged between five and fifty years, from schools across East Devon and Dorset, attended the grading.

There was a 100 per cent pass from Star Tae Kwon-Do’s 43 students. Lead instructor, Chloe Lock, always finds the week following a grading very rewarding when she presents her students with their new belts and grading certificates.

Miss Lock is fortunate that she has a very large team of Black Belts who regularly help and support her and share their knowledge with the other students and they are very much instrumental in ensuring the high standards are maintained.

Eight-year-old Juliana gained an A pass and was presented the grading award for Broadclyst by grading examiner Master Michael Dew 8th Dan. There was also a noticeable increase in plus passes.

Such is the dedication some of the students have that one of the club’s TAGB Tigers who had just had his seventh birthday was so excited at the prospect of having a new belt that, instead of waiting for the August grading, he chose to forgo his planned birthday treat to Legoland and attend this grading!

Grading examiner Master Dew also presented Broadclyst student, Mr Nick Tandy, and Ottery St Mary Instructors, Mr and Mrs Taylor, their 2nd degree Black Belt certificates.

Nick Tandy is managing to keep one step ahead of his two sons, Harry (aged 12) and Joseph (aged nine), who are both 1st degree Black Belts. They can be seen in action at Broadclyst Fun Day on June 28, at 1.30pm along with the rest of the demonstration team.
