Archant

Last Friday the Devon and Somerset Gliding Club was full of the buzz of teenagers excited to sample gliding for a day, writes Jill Harmer.

Four club members from the Bennett family arranged a day’s gliding experience for 25 friends.

The morning started a little damp but enabled the safety briefings and admin to be sorted, this was followed by some videos and an illustrated talk on what can be achieved in soaring flights.

Whilst we were waiting for the weather to improve, there was a sporty game of rounders in the mist.

In the afternoon, the sun arrived and using three of the club’s two-seaters, all the young people enjoyed extended flights in the gentle lift of the day.

Some asked for second flights. They were also fascinated watching the powerful DSGC winch pull the gliders into the air.
