Reigning national champion Total Eclipse, ridden by Hannah Welch, totally eclipsed her rivals in the 148 pony race at the Dulverton West point to point, winning easing down by 12 lengths.

It was the pony’s first outing of the season for her new rider and, having looked lively on the way to post, when she unshipped Welch, the pair, once reunited, had no problem scoring.

Annie IV, now being ridden by Barnaby Treneer, put up a battling effort in second and ran on well to be closest at the post.

Frantic Fox (Ben Price) and Flareon (Heidi Lewis) are both consistent performers and ran on well up the tough Bratton Hill, but it was Total Eclipse that everyone was talking about. The pony won the national Charles Owen finals last year under Rachel Leyshon.

There was drama in the preceding 138 race as top performer Ninfields Millionaires Delight unshipped Harry Cobden after the first bend when he held a commanding lead.

He was being chased by Ravara Super Ted (Pippa Glanville) and Bejowans Bouquet and the pair battled for the lead thereafter. Bejowans Bouquet, in terrific form this season, finally scored by three lengths with Ravara Super Ted a brave second, conceding around four stone in weight.

Wee Antony ran on well in the closing stages for Megan Nicholls and there was another great run from Ginger Wizard (Jake Bament) in fourth.
