Bryony Frost rode her 30th pony race winner at the Dart Vale and Haldon Harriers point to point, when Tarka powered to victory in the 148 race.

She prevailed by a length over the Frost family’s second runner Missoopsadaisy ridden by Donald Comer Calder and the latter looks likely to be the one to beat Tarka next time out.
Bryony is in her last season pony racing as she turns 16 in April and her family have been a great supporter of the sport as elder brother Hadden, now a successful NH jockey, was also successful as a young teenager.
Flareon (Heidi Lewis) looked back to her usual self in third, and will only improve as the season goes on and the five year old She’s So Cool had a good first time out run for Chester Williams. The five year old mare behaved impeccably as it was her first visit to a racecourse.
At the opposite end of the scale, first season rider Tina Smith booted Bejowans Bouquet to victory in the 138 race, her first win after just three rides and she must be thinking that this pony racing is easy!
ejowans Bouquet was previously successful for Heidi Lewis and has provided a great introduction to the sport for Tina, who would possibly have won last time out but just couldn’t make up for a poor start. This time there was no hestitation in getting away and Bejowans Bouquet surged ahead of early challenger Ravara Super Ted in the closing stages, with Talponciau Perfect Print (Barnaby Treneer) and Bronze Lawrance (Hannah Welch) taking second and third.
It was great to see some new faces coming through in this race and there were first time rides for Elizabeth Langton on Diptford Melika and for Thomasina Eyston on Super Ted and other relative newcomers Megan Lawrence and Michael Treneer are also making great strides and Michael’s My Golden Dream ran his best race yet.
The next pony races are on April 3 at Great Trethew near Looe at the East Cornwall point to point which will be more of a stayer’s course.
