Sidmouth Under-12s produced some excellent rugby as they dominated hosts Exmouth on an artificial surface.

Before the game began there had been some delightful late winter sunshine, but that was halted temporarily for a hail storm!

The Sidmouth players took the changing elements in their stride as they moved the ball around with slick handling and bags of endeavour to run in countless tries.

Sidmouth pinned the home side back in their own half for most of the first quarter. However, at times they were perhaps a little guilty of spoiling what had looked easy opportunities to score.

Despite that, there was some solid rucking and good passing through the hands that led to an opening try and further crosses of the home whitewash saw Sidmouth into a comfortable lead at the end of the first quarter.

During the second quarter, Sidmouth began to rotate their players, but this did not affect their dominance of the contest. At the end of the second quarter Sidmouth had reached the margin of scores between the teams that usually means an end to the game, but it was Exmouth who valiantly asked to continue.

In the third quarter, the home side enjoyed a period of good possession and it needed some excellent disciplined defending to deny them a score.

In the final quarter, the greater fitness levels of the Sidmouth players came to the fore as they ran in a succession of tries to complete a terrific clean-sheet success.

This was a fine all-round show, but credit must also go to a battling Exmouth side and to their club in general for being such wonderful hosts.
