Sidmouth Under-12s shake off injury woes to defeat Bridport

An injury-hit Sidmouth Under-12s took on the Dorset side’s formidable looking pack and acquitted themselves well last Sunday, writes Craig Morgan.

As the rain set in handling became difficult with the slippery ball and early on Sid fumbled several clear cut opportunities. The green forwards worked tirelessly, however, and kept a good supply of ball going to the threes. Jack Wilson eventually broke the deadlock using his’ gas’ down the wing to outsprint a flailing defence.

Bridport arrived three players short and Jack Jenkins, Ollie Leyshon and Mattie Laurenti graciously offered their services to the opposition – and a big thanks to them for doing so.

The two wild men of Sidmouth’s loose forwards then deservedly chipped in with tries in the form of Max ‘Ginja Ninja’ Dix and Peaky ‘the destroyer of souls’ Peacock.

The second half evolved completely differently with Peaky, Archie and Jamie playing well for Bridport and again Alex led the charge only this time against us !! With renewed ’go forward’ supplied by Alex Bridport scored twice through their two battering rams to create a grandstand finish. But the best was saved till last with Finlay Morgan giving a sublime pass to Wilson who, running a brilliant ‘against the grain’ line, carved through the defensive to put the gloss on the score line.
