Honiton 10, Sidmouth 48
After two heavy defeats the tables were turned as Sidmouth Under-14s dominated play at a misty Honiton.
An early try from the indomitable Mead started proceedings well, but Sidmouth’s palpable air of confidence was tested by a series of confusing penalty decisions which served to break up their momentum. A breath taking scrag tackle on the normally evasive Bagwell catalysed Sidmouth as Mead secured a second which Harris converted. Despite excellent forward play from Sidmouth against a much larger opposition, Honiton eeked out a reply to end the half 5-12 down.
Sidmouth maintained their momentum and tempo in the second half with Mead, Malec, Perez (E) and Lowe (2) running in five tries with Harris securing three conversions whilst limiting Honiton to a single. Quick to the breakdown and secure in their handling and passing, Sidmouth frustrated Honiton and a yellow card ‘spear tackle’ penalty advantage was rightly capitalised on by a weaving Mead to close the game 48-10.
This was an excellent display of positive all round team play and well deserved win.
