Sidmouth’s Will Fryer has been winning more top honours.

The 15-year-old was crowned champion at the North Devon Open Under-17 tournament.

What’s more he then secured a runners-up berth in the Under-19 doubles!

Fryer required four qualifying match wins and a 75 per cent win ratio to make the finals, but he exceeded that by winning all eight of his qualifying matches and so posted an impressive 100 per cent win ratio.

In the first four months of this badminton season the talented teenager has now racked up five gold medals, six silver and four bronze and now of course he is the North Devon champion.

His continuing hard work has also now earned him a place on the badminton England Under-17 silver circuit, quite an achievement given he has only just turned 15!

A forthcoming target for the youngster is to be accepted for the national championships in March.

He has recently been selected to play the prestigious Under-17 ICT tournament at Nottingham. This is a four-day event which is a national challenge between the top players of each county who are looking to see their own counties ranked as high as possible.

Fryer is currently ranked 211th in the country and that mean she has moved up some 400 places over the past three years.

In that time the fleet footed St Johns International school pupil, who is coached by Richard Lane from Newton Abbott, has worn out 11 pairs of badminton trainers during his rise up the rankings.
