Sidmouth bowlers serve up some slick action in first round of ladies club singles championship

There was just the one mixed friendly played by Sidmouth bowlers last week and that was a Saturday trip into Exeter to meet Isca, writes Carol Smith.
With the fixture clashing with a number of national competition matches, it left a tough job for those responsible for fielding a team. However, sufficient numbers were rounded up to take three triples and many thanks are due to the good folk who stepped forward to help out.
There have been several matches cancelled so far this season by other clubs, but we strive to pride ourselves so being able to muster numbers to play games rather than cancel them.
Sadly, all three of the Sidmouth triples were ultimately beaten, though one of them got as far as the penultimate end all square at 16-all before being edged out by a single shot!
So well done, to Ray Gray, Chris Radburn and skip Jean Green, for almost winning! As for the overall result, well that ended 71-42 to Isca.
Finally, in what has been a might busy week for us all, the first round of the ladies’ club singles championship was played out on Sunday morning.
The format is one of shots and not ends with the winner being the first to reach 21 shots.
This can take very little time, or indeed, loads of time, as a couple of games did. It was great to watch a couple of them as they were nip and tuck for 27 to 28 ends with one player eventually reaching that desired 21 shot score.
These particular games were worthy of a final rather than the very first round! The ladies through to the second round are; Sandra Wheeler, Jean Green, Jean Brimson, Elaine Reed, Jill Bishop, Susie Bonnell and Chris Radburn.
