Sidmouth seniors held a highly successful Charity Bowl meeting, writes Hugh Dorliac.
Thanks must go to all who took part in the event this year, which raised a total of £155.
A special thanks to those who normally would have used a buggy, but due to the weather conditions were not able to drive safely round the course. However, under considerable personal discomfort, they dusted off their trolleys and walked.
The results were outstanding, given the wet conditions. Peter Hayman played out of this skin to score 40 points and earn himself a handicap cut from 28 to 26.
The Bowl will be presented to Peter at the seniors’ closing dinner. Ray Gunston and H Thompson both posted two good rounds of 39 and were also cut, probably not before time!
I shall not mention the names of those who went the other way and only scored 16, but better luck to them next time and, remember, it was for charity. Nearest the pin was Mike Davis who won a fine bottle of whisky for a very fine shot down the hill on the 12th.
Thanks must go to Peter Emery and Tony Stoyle for their support in running this very successful event and our pro Ross for his hard work.
The next event is the Autumn Cup, to be held on September 25. This is a new event for the senior calendar and will take the shape of a team event to complement the many individual competitions during the year.
Teams will be drawn from three handicap divisions, to give everyone a sporting chance on the day.
Meanwhile, seniors’ captain Bruce Harcourt has announced that his Captain’s Away Day meeting is to take place on Thursday, October 5.
The entry list is now posted on the board and entry fee is £35 for this competition with a two-course carvery meal at the fantastic Tiverton golf course. He urges senior members to book early as numbers will be limited.
