Thirty-four teams contested the Upper Crust Bakery Trophy, writes Chris Roberts

With the competition sponsor Neil (Fred the Bread) Faulkner setting the format of the day it was always going to be a tough challenge!

Fred did not disappoint by setting the teams of the white tees with full handicap, stableford points, and with the first six holes, one score to count followed by the second six with two scores to count and finally the last six holes with all three scores to count.

What quickly became clear was that a large score would be required to seal victory!

Kevin Legg, Roy Turner and Eric McMath played superbly to set what always looked an unbeatable score of 82, proving once again just what a formidable team the trio are!

They were pushed all the way though, and, just a single point back were the threesome of Mike Baden, Bob Welsman and David Burgess.

However, the story of the day involves the team that finished third - Sean Murphy and Steve Punter, a pair competing in a threesome’s competition and yet amassing a most impressive 79 points proving that sometimes three really is a crowd!
