11:03 09 January 2014

Sidmouth bowlers played the one match over the Christmas period, a friendly mixed match against Bovey Tracey, write Sue and Peter Mison.

This was played on the final Saturday of December and Sidmouth won on all three rinks and by 87 shots to 46. Our best rink was Paddy Wrench, Dave Lever, Bert Hague and skip Sheila Lockwood who won 36-8.

The Men played Budleigh Salterton in the Interclub League last Saturday on the usual two rinks at home, two away basis. With both home teams winning and both away teams only suffering modest losses Sidmouth won overall by 71 shots to 68.

Well done, to our best winning rink of Tony Brown, Tony Holland, Mike Reader and skip Norman Brimson who won by 20 shots to 14.

In the afternoon Sidmouth entertained Dunkeswell in a three rink mixed triples with Sidmouth in good form winning on all three rinks and by 72 shots to 27 overall. Congratulations to our best rink, Chris Radburn, Jim Wrench and skip Paddy Wrench who won by 26 shots to 5.

The Ladies occupied the rinks all day on Sunday playing their first round of the Pairs competition.

Congratulations, to all those who are through to the second round, Maureen Lamb and Jenny Fricker,

Rosemary Brown and Zena Johnson, Paddy Chew and Annie Eaton, Paddy Wrench and Margot Beauchamp, Anne Reece and Christa Turner and Anita Mason and Doreen Pound.

Again, it was good to see some of our newer members entering this competition with two of them through to the second round.

The Men travelled to Axminster in the afternoon to play a friendly match where, after a closely fought contest, Sidmouth lost by the narrowest of margins, 58 shots to 59 and by two rinks to one.

Congratulations, to our winning rink Ron Denning, Peter Bates, David Fairclough and skip Roger Woolland.

The semi finals of the men’s Colin Bryant Cup were played on Monday evening with the result that the Whisperers were well beaten by the Jays by 22 shots to 9 and the Magpies were outclassed by the Outsiders by 18 shots to 8.

The Jays now play the Outsiders in the Final in April.

The ladies played triples at Sidmouth against Honiton on Tuesday morning, winning on two rinks but losing overall to Honiton by just one shot, 48 shots to 49. Well done, to our best rink of Margot Beauchamp, Mary Bristow and skip Eileen Stribling who won by 23 shots to 12.
