Archant

There was plenty of action for the Sidmouth bowlers over the past week, write Peter and Sue Mison.

It all began with a Tuesday two-rink home meeting with near-rivals Budleigh Salterton which saw the visitors defeated by 16 shots at 47-31.

The rink of Margot Beauchamp, Susie Bonnell, Evelyn Clements and skip Phyll Nobbs secured an impressive 27-11 success.

The following afternoon the Sidmouth men entertained three rinks from Madeira in another friendly encounter.

Hard fought matches played in a congenial atmosphere are the norm between the two clubs and on this occasion Madeira were the victors by the narrowest of margins, winning on two rinks and by 55 shots to 54 overall.

The winning Sidmouth rink was that skipped by Ron Cook and including Mike Daw, Ken Tolley, David Fairclough and skip Ron Cook who won by 22 shots to 14.

Sidmouth Ladies played their fourth match in the Foxlands League on Thursday against Dawlish, winning on one rink at home and one rink away, but losing overall by 75 shots to 80, thus gaining another four points in the League.

Well done to the home winning rink of Jan Jameson Bates, Sue Mison, Ann Capon and skip Jill Bishop who won by 24 shots to 15 and the away rink of Mary Smith, Paddy Chew, Sheila Lewis and skip Jane Painter who won by 26 shots to 16.

On Saturday Dawlish brought three mixed rinks to play Sidmouth.

The Sidmouth teams played well, winning on all three rinks and by an overall score of 69 shots to 42.

Congratulations, to our best rink Connie Tolley, Ken Tolley, Jenny Fricker and skip John Chew who won by 24 shots to 8.
